How the WESC😘 One Eye, Two Eyes and Three Eyes Became Friends
This is an adaptation of “One-Eye, Two-Eyes, and Three-Eyes" - a German fairy tale collected by the Grimm Brothers. The ending was formulated with the help of Google Bard. Originally, a tale about overcoming individual adversity, is rewritten as a tale of inclusion.
Three-Eyes saw through her unseeing eye what happened to them and burst into tears! Her tears streamed down both her eyes while her third eye remained shut in quiet contemplation.
Once there were two sisters who lived in a lone cottage in the woods, Three-Eyes and Two-Eyes. Their parents, when they were alive, each had three eyes as well. So did their grandparents and uncles and aunts. Two-Eyes was the only one in the family with only two eyes, so her parents named her Rare Animal. The girls lived in that cottage, now all by themselves for as long as they could remember, and they never saw anyone else.
The eldest had an eye in the middle of her forehead in between her seeing eyes. Her name was Three‑Eyes. The eye on her forehead was the unseeing eye. She used her two eyes to look and find her way around. Her third eye came in handy but once, long ago. Their parents went to the woods to fetch wood and were attacked by a pack of wild wolves. While her other sister, Two-Eyes, who had two eyes, was home with her inside the cottage and thought her parents would return soon, Three-Eyes saw through her unseeing eye what happened to them and burst into tears! Her tears streamed down both her eyes while her third eye remained shut in quiet contemplation. Later when the villagers found out and heard about the magical powers of Three-Eyes, they named her Ergo.
Three-Eyes was only two years older than her little sister and could barely care for herself. They dressed in ragged clothes and ate whatever they could forage from the woods. Sometimes they went together to pick mushrooms, even though two eyes would often get distracted and start chasing squirrels. When it was time to eat, Two-Eyes would have nothing except for what Three-Eyes could spare.
...
Now, the sisters owned a goat, and every day Rare Animal took it to the meadow to graze. One morning, when she’d had hardly anything to eat, she sat on the grass and cried her two eyes out.
All at once, an old woman stood before her. But the biggest surprise was that this woman had two eyes, just like Rare Animal herself.
“What’s wrong, my dear?” asked the woman.
Rare Animal replied between sobs, “I went chasing the squirrels in the woods and forgot to pick mushrooms, and now I am very, very hungry!”
“Don’t worry my dear!” said the woman. “You can have as much as you like. Just say to your goat,
‘Bleat, goat, bleat.
And bring me lots to eat!’
Then you’ll have plenty. Just remember, you may ask the goat but once a day. When you don’t want any more, just say,
‘Bleat, goat, bleat.
I’ve had so much to eat!’
“Then the rest will vanish. Just like that.” Said the old woman snapping her fingers and vanished into thin air!
Rare Animal couldn’t wait to try. She said to the goat,
“Bleat, goat, bleat.
And bring me lots to eat!”
The goat bleated, and a little picnic table appeared with a whitewashed bench to match. And on it, were sandwiches with melty cheese, creamy soups with crotons, fluffy mashed potatoes and gravy, gooey mac and cheese, roasted carrots, turnips, asparagus and the largest portobello mushrooms that Rare Animal had ever seen?! Pies and juicy fruits of all kinds!
She ate and ate, until she could not eat anymore.
When she’d eaten her fill, she said,
“Bleat, goat, bleat.
I’ve had so much to eat!”
The goat bleated and the table vanished along with all the food, dishes, utensils, forks, and spoons.
When Rare Animal went home, she saw her sister eating the scraps from the day before. Rare Animal was excited about the feast she had but hesitated to talk about it. While she was enjoying the meal, she plain forgot to save some for Three-Eyes.
Seeing Two-Eyes did not touch her bowl of scraps, Three-Eyes asked if she could have her share as well?
Rare Animal was only too happy to let her sister have her share and promised herself to bring her sister to the meadows with the goat the next day for a surprise! That way, they could both share the delicious, mouth-watering spread together.
Now, the sisters owned a goat, and every day Rare Animal took it to the meadow to graze.
The next day the two sisters set out to the meadows with the goat, Rare Animal wanted to keep the magical feast a secret so she could surprise Three-Eyes. At the meadow, the two sisters sat under the shade of a tree and Rare Animal said:
“Bleat, goat, bleat.
And bring me lots to eat!”
And behold, the picnic table packed with many mouth-watering foods appeared! A yummy aroma filled the air making the girls even more hungry! Three-Eyes could hardly believe her eyes! The two girls ate the cheesiest pizzas with all sorts of toppings, juicy hamburgers, ice-creams, and cakes.
Now there was a lone traveler passing through the woods when Rare Animal was just about to speak her clean up spell. He was very tired and hungry, his only eye rolling around on his forehead. He said nothing, but the sisters noticed he was hungrily eyeing the picnic table that still looked freshly lain even after the girls had their fill.
He said nothing and stood in silence. The girls took heart and invited him to have whatever he wished. With an indiscriminate grunt, the traveler started to stuff fist full of food into this mouth. The gravy dripped down his fuzzy chest, the jelly from the pies oozed out from in between his fingers. His loud chewing noises echoed through the meadow. Until at last he drank a full jar of mead and wiped his mouth with the back of his palm and let out a resounding burp that made the goat trot about nervously for quite a while!
With their stomachs full and the air so fresh, a lull had fallen over the three of them. By and by they fell fast asleep. Rare Animal did not get a chance to speak her cleanup spell. The picnic table lay full of delicious foods. While the three of them slept, a group of flies descended upon the Shoo-fly pie drawn to the sweet smell of berries and sugar. Squirrels and chipmunks scurried away with tiny morsels.
The three slept and slept until the sun was about to go down on the sky. Slowly the raccoons smelled the food and poked their black pointy noses through the bushes. In the distance the wolves started to howl when they smelled the juicy roasts!
“They are coming for us!” said Three-Eyes as she saw through her third eye, a hungry pack of wolves making their way towards the picnic table, still a little way away. The light of the setting sun was dimming fast by then… Quickly Rare Animal said her spell:
“Bleat, goat, bleat.
I’ve had so much to eat!”
I’ve had so much to eat!”
But alas, the goat having grazed all day in the sun was now fast asleep. No matter how hard the three tried to wake up the goat, it just grunted and went on sleeping.
Meanwhile Three-Eyes could see that the wolves were not too far off. Rare Animal not knowing what else to do, said to the traveler,
“Come on, do something!”
Bionic Omni had the rare power to be anywhere at any time! He quickly lifted the goat up and asked the sisters to hold him tightly as he zoomed off so fast that his feet barely touched the ground. Hanging in midair, Rare Animal spoke her spell once again. This time it worked! After bringing the sisters to the safety of their hut, Bionic Omni placed the goat in the yard. The sisters let him sleep on a hammock in the yard.
Google Bard helped in an optimized ending to the story…
Bionic Omni was tempted to steal the goat in the dead of the night, but he knew he would have much more to gain to have sisters for friends who he could visit often. Bionic Omni knew that stealing the goat would be wrong. He had been given great power, and he knew that it came with great responsibility. He understood that he had a duty to use his power to help others, not to hurt them.
In the morning after a greasy breakfast of scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, silver dollar pancakes with gooey syrup, Bionic Omni thanked the sisters for sharing their food when he was hungry and said goodbye to them. The sisters thanked him for saving them from the hungry wolves.
The three remained friends for the rest of their lives. Bionic Omni, Rare Animal and Ergo always looked out for each other. They often went fishing and boating in the river by the hut where the sisters lived. They were a force for good in the world, and they helped feed many hungry people throughout their lives.

Do we learn to love those who are dissimilar and challenge our version of reality ever so simply? And then, the question to ask – if truth is stranger than fiction, can binary have more facets than non-binary?
